The Office Environment is being screened as part of the Chicago Irish Film Festival on March 10th at 7:30PM in the Beverly Arts Center. Tickets for the shorts programme are $20 or $15 for BAC members.
In other news, The Office Environment was nominated for a Royal Television Society Award, and the ceremony took place in RTE. Darragh Duffy and Eamonn O’Neill who I went to college with were both nominated as well and the award for best animation went to Darragh so congratulation’s to him!
It has also been brought to my attention that The Office Environment has been chosen by IADT to represent the National Film School in the Cilect Prize this year. Just being chosen as the sole representative above all the film/documentary/animation produced in IADT last year is a huge honour regardless of whether it is shortlisted or not. Frankly I’m amazed, particularly given the strength and quality of the animation produced by the graduating class of 2009.
If anyone is in Sligo on the 20th of February, I’m taking part in Natural Progression a small exhibition of Sligo born/based digital artists. I, my brother Tom, my brother Sean, Lisa Powell, Victoria MacArthur, Michelle Granville and Nick Grey will be exhibiting various pieces of digital art. I will be exhibiting my first Installation combining Electronic Composition and Animation. The venue is ArtMart Studios on the Mall and it will remain open for 2 weeks after the opening on the 20th.

The Chicago Irish Film Festival will be screening “The Office Environment” between March 5th and March 10th this year. A further screening is scheduled for New York as well but I’ll post the details of that once the full line-up is finalised. These will be my first screenings state-side so I can’t wait. Not that I’ll actually get to travel there for them, impoverished as I am. Still great news, I feel honoured!

I’ll be doing a few months work with the Galway based animation studio A Man & Ink starting early next month. Can’t wait! If you live in Ireland you might have seen their short series “The Variety Show“, on TTV just before Home and Away. I’ll be using the little known and poorly titled Anime Studio Pro, which is actually a great program! It’s not a million miles off Adobe Flash but much more suited to professional animation workflow and has a great bones system that’s similar to 3D Studio Max combined with an After Effects style timeline. Jeremy from A Man & Ink does some great tutorials on the program and I picked it up after about an hour! If you’re interested, there’s a layout explanation, a straighforward Bouncing Ball Tutorial, and an Animation Process Video all up on Vimeo.com.
About 2 weeks ago, Dagny Kleber of the German film festival Britspotting posted a wonderful write-up on the Britspotting website about your’s truly entitled Spotlight On: Mark Mullery. Give it look! I’m not sure if my film has been selected for the festival or not as there is no listing up yet but either way, having the write-up was an honour.

The Office Environment was selected and screened at the Lighthouse Cinema as part of the Darklight Film Festival. Specifically it was selected by the art collective Synth Eastwood. Big props to them for selecting it from the hundreds of entries, it really was an honour! It’s a pity I couldn’t have posted this before the Festival but the site was experiencing problems at the time. That said the place was packed out so I don’t think they needed any more press!
